Hafizabad as city existed as back in the time of attacks of Alexander the Great in this area and further developed in the time of legend Emperor Akbar-e- Azam. In near past, it was a Sub-Division of Gujranwala District but emerged as independent District in 1993 and first District and Sessions Judge assumed the charge on 11-11-1993. It is well linked through Lahore Motorway (M-3), Railways and road links. Basically an agricultural area, it is famous for its Basmati Rice exported globally. Lands are irrigated through a vast network of canals and fall between two known rivers, Ravi and Chenab.

Hafizabad has two Sub-Divisions, Hafizabad and Pindi Bhattian, and Civil and Criminal, trial and appellate Courts are functioning at both the places.
